In 1936 in Amsterdam was published the novel “Lies-Neron” the work of the outstanding German writer Lyon Feichtwanger, recently released the first and second parts of the epic “Trilogy about Josephus” .. The plot, touched upon in the process of working on this monumental historical canvas about the ancient Roman historian of Jewish origin, inspired Feichtwanger to devote a separate novel to the history of the potter Terence, who declared himself a miracle saved by Emperor Nero. And to this day, this compact, almost accidentally born novel remains one of the most beloved in the creative heritage of Feichtwanger for many of his admirers. The novel Jephthah and His Daughter, also included in the collection, is in many ways the pinnacle of Feichtwanger's work. It again contains a Jewish theme, more or less clearly expressed in most of his writings. But, in addition, this novel is the result of many years of reflection on the fate of the biblical Jephthah, who struck the author as a child, about the tragic confrontation of a person with a fatal coincidence. The novel “Jeffay and his daughter” was published a year before the death of the writer
