Hans Fallada (alias Rudolf Dietzen, 1893-1947) is part of the cohort of European classics of the twentieth century. His novels represent an accurate diagnosis of the state of German society at different historical stages.... The year is 1940. German troops triumphantly enter Paris . Ordinary Germans rejoice in unison with the top of the Reich, anticipating the imminent defeat of England and the establishment of German world domination. In such an atmosphere, either a hero or a madman can challenge the regime. Or someone who has nothing to lose. Having received a funeral for his only son, carpenter Otto Quangel declares war on Nazism. Together with his wife Anna, they write and distribute postcards calling for resistance .. But compatriots do not listen to the voice of truth - sticky fear paralyzes their will and decomposes souls The story of the Gospels Fallad did not invent: postcards are preserved in the archives of the Gestapo The book was written in hot pursuit, in 1947, and saw the light of day after the death of the author. Despite the fact that the text was subjected to significant censorship, the novel was a resounding success: it was translated into many languages, formed the basis of four screenplays and a large number of theatrical productions in different countries. More than half a century later, the second edition of the novel was released - cleared of opportunistic edit. "One in Berlin" - a new translation of this complete, restored author's version.
