John Donne (1571/2-1631) - born in the family of a prosperous merchant, head of the shop of hardware merchants. Donna's mother was the grand-niece of Thomas More, the famous Renaissance humanist, author of Utopia. In the family, the future poet received a strict Catholic upbringing .. Then he studied at Oxford and Cambridge .. In the early 90s, Donne continued his education at the well-known law school in England, which at that time was often called the third university. In the late 1990s, Donne became personal secretary to Sir Thomas Edgerton, Lord Keeper of the Seal and member of the Privy Council of Queen Elizabeth I.... In 1615 . after long hesitation and not without the insistence of King James I, the poet takes the spiritual rank From 1616 to 1622 . he lectures on theology for students of the London Law Corporation. Since 1621. and until the last days of his life he holds the post of abbot of the Cathedral of St.. Paul in London, winning the fame of one of the best preachers of the era ... During these years, he almost ceases to engage in poetry, considering it a hobby of days gone by. Only after the death of the poet, his poems were collected from manuscripts kept by a wide variety of persons. Their first edition was published in 1633 ..
