A story about a boy and his friends written by Lao She in 1931, when he worked as a teacher of Chinese at a school in Singapore. Falling asleep, the boy enters a funny country, where prank is not punished, but encouraged, where tea and milk flow from the taps, where everything is given for nothing - at least for a children's toy. From the Land of Children, the sleeping Xiaopo is transferred to the Land of the Monkeys, where his classmate Zhang. reigns. Zhang (and this image was a very audacious satire on the then Chinese ruler Chiang Kai-shek) grazes before the strong, punishes the weak, arranges meetings among the monkeys, at which he speaks only himself, and declares a predestined war on the wolves. Even more funny is the monkey army . The sentinel, rubbing his tears, reports to the king as if an eight hundred thousand wolf army were coming at them. He himself did not see anything - so said one wolf, which the monkeys could capture only sleeping. Monkey cavalrymen ride on sheep, and advance slower than the infantry, because they are afraid of falling. When Zhang sends his army to the east, it goes to the west, and when the army is sent to the west, it goes to the east in short, the soldiers are looking not for battles, but for a quieter place. In this dream, there are a lot of sarcastic hints about life in Kuomintang China, but Xiaopo sees it on his birthday and takes everything cheerfully.
