The composition of the late Roman historian Jordan “On the Origin and Acts of the Getes (Getica)” is one of the largest works of the early European Middle Ages, one of the most interesting sources on the history of the entire era as a whole. Jordan recounts the historical fate of the Goths (Goths) from the time they left Scandinavia and landed near the mouth of the Vistula. He describes their advance south to the Black Sea and then west as far as Italy and Spain, where they formed two powerful states, Visigoths and Ostrogoths. Text of Latin edition "Getica" reproduced by T. Mommsen . He completed his work in 551 g. The text of the new edition is re-edited and significantly supplemented by the author's copy of E. H. Skrzhinskaya . New materials are added ....... [ In a giant historical panorama, vivid pictures of the most fateful events for the entire European civilization are inscribed - the invasion of the formidable warrior Attila on Rome, the "battle of the peoples" in the Catalaunian fields, the death of the Roman Empire, the first religious wars, and so on...... d. Of great interest are also information about the ancient Slavs on the Vistula, Dnieper, Dniester and Danube .. Not only as a researcher, relying on written sources, but also as an eyewitness to many events, Jordan presented in his presentation a grandiose picture of the “great resettlement of peoples” in the IV-V centuries. He outlined the movement of tribes from the east and north and their struggle against the Roman Empire on its Danube borders, in its Balkan and western provinces. The composition is brought by the author to his days.
