"The Lover of Antiquities" . The Old Curiosity Shop is a novel by Charles Dickens, first published in 184041. The main character of the novel is a girl named Nellie Trent . Her grandfather, the owner of an antique shop, went bankrupt and was forced to wander around England with his granddaughter. The first publication of “The Shop of Antiquities” caused a real furor throughout the English-speaking world. Readers eagerly awaited every chapter of the novel, published in the newspaper in the form of weekly issues.
