The novel tells about the life of the family of a young man Nicholas Nickleby, who, after the loss of his father, was forced to ask for help from the dishonest and treacherous Uncle Ralph. The latter breaks up the family, sending Nicholas to teach in a remote rural school-hospital for boys, and his sister Kate is going to marry on her own initiative. Outraged by the cruel practices and treatment of pupils at school, the young man escapes from there in the company of a homeless boy. Thus begins the confrontation between the brave Nicholas and his cruel uncle Ralph. "The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby" is an educational novel by Charles Dickens.
