This work of the Russian religious thinker Vasily Rozanov (1856-1919) is devoted to one of the leading trends in culture and art of the late XIX - early XX century - decadence. Rozanov sharply criticizes the "art of decline", and through it - modern culture as a whole. In his opinion, symbolism, the main literary trend of the decadence, is “not so much poetry as poetic art”, when the form is improved, but lost.
