In the proposed volume of works M. Eliade collected three works, united by a common theme. Much echoing the problems of previous books, The Myth of Eternal Return speaks of an archaic perception of time as a series of repeated large and small cycles marked by the sacred events of the creation, destruction, and rebirth of the World. With the archetype of Time, cosmogonic representations are associated, including the perception of space as a structurally marked whole with the Center isolated in it. The cyclical time of the myth is opposed by the historical time and the problems of fate, personality, and faith that arise with it, which the author calls “the horror of history”. Images of the World and Center, Time and History, rituals of “burning time” and “tying knots” are considered in the work “Images and Symbols” mainly based on the material of the Ancient East. "Sacred and Worldly" continues and partially summarizes both of these topics.
