A small treatise entitled A Brief Compendium of Spiritual Exercises, written in Spanish by an unnamed monk of the Montserrat Monastery in Catalonia in the first half of the 16th century, is published for the first time in a Russian translation. This composition is one of the links in the continuous chain of the tradition of spiritual exercises dating back to the Pythagorean school. The other end of the chain leads us to the "Spiritual Exercises" of St. Ignatius Loyola, who apparently used the published treatise as the main source of his practical manual.
