In this book, Father John gathered penitential prayers from the Triodion of the Lenten and Great Penitential Canon of St. Andrew of Crete (translated into Russian). As well as extracts from the creations of the devotees of the 19th century ,. Bishop of Nizhny Novgorod Jeremiah (Solovyov) and Bishop of the former Chigirinsky Porphyry (Uspensky) . It was kept in a drawer of a desk, and Father John read it every night for many years of his life.
