The ninth volume of *Mastery of Translation* begins with an essay on Soviet multiethnic literature and the importance of literary translation in our country. The collection highlights the translation work of Yakub Kolas, Mykola Zerov, Vera Zvyagintseva, and Boris Turganov—masters who have contributed to the mutual translation of Soviet literature. A new section, “On the History of Translation,” is introduced, featuring articles that will, in the future, serve as material for a comprehensive overview of the art of translation in the USSR. Special attention is given to the challenges of poetic translation, explored from historical, literary, critical, and creative perspectives. The “Legacy” section includes an unpublished article by Academician N. I. Konrad. The volume concludes with bibliographies of Russian and foreign publications for 1968 and 1969.
