I have carefully avoided entering scientific assumptions from general sexual biology or from the sexual biology of individual animal species into the study. My goal was to find out what can be discovered by means of psychological research in the field of the biology of human sexual life. I have been able to point out the connections and coincidences revealed by this study, but I should not have concealed from myself the fact that in some important points psychoanalytic research has led to conclusions and views that deviate significantly from those based only on biological data.
