These are poems about the first Chechen war. The last poem was written in August 1999. And a month later, with the help of many good people - both Russians and Chechens - my son and I unexpectedly managed to move to the Stavropol region. Back in Grozny, I printed out these texts in several copies to give to friends as a souvenir of the events that we experienced together. I didn’t intend to publish this selection, because I understand perfectly well that all this has nothing to do with poetry, and as a report from the scene it is interesting only to a narrow circle of people. But today, fifteen years after the start of the first Chechen war and ten years after the start of the second, I suddenly wanted to publish this little book. Almost every day in the news from the North Caucasus we hear about terrorist attacks, murders, and weapons caches found. And I felt the need to share my anxiety with those who accidentally wander onto my page.
