These guidelines are intended for study in the second or third courses by students of the Department of Romano-Germanic Philology and International Journalism . These instructions are aimed at the development and improvement of students' oral and written skills, their professional skills in the process of classroom and extracurricular work .. The guidelines consist of five parts (Holiday plans, Home and away, Travelling by train, Travelling by air and Travelling by sea and river), a list of oral topics offered in the English language practice exam, and a list of used literature. Each part solves certain methodological problems and contains a set of tasks and exercises necessary for mastering the topic and contributing to the development and improvement of oral and written speech. These guidelines are intended for study in the second or third courses by students of the Department of Romano-Germanic Philology and International Journalism . Each part solves certain methodological problems and contains a set of tasks and exercises necessary for mastering the topic and contributing to the development and improvement of oral and written speech. Each part contains a lexical list, divided into sub-themes, and lexical exercises aimed at securing new material. Lexical exercises are tasks of different types: from finding Russian-English equivalents, choosing one of the answer options to selecting vocabulary in accordance with definitions. The main part of each section consists of texts and text assignments of varying complexity (from the middle level to advanced), which allows using these methodological guidelines for students of both second and third courses during thematic training and when repeating material. The presented texts - these are excerpts from fiction and journalism - are, in terms of content, informative and general educational in nature. Tasks on the practice of oral speech, including memorization and dramatization of dialogues, creative tasks for drawing up their own dialogues, discussion tasks, tasks on pictures and schemes, help to consolidate lexical material and develop the skills of grammatically correct speech . The dialogues presented in the guidelines imitate live spoken speech and have practical value. Much attention is paid to the written tasks presented in each section. They provide for independent testing of the norms of modern English and preparation of students for writing presentations and essays. The final part contains a list of oral topics recommended for the English language practice exam.
