This textbook includes the course program "Teaching about facies", review and coverage of the concepts: taxonomic rank, litotitis, lithogenetic type, landscape, sedimentary formation: evolution of the concepts of "facies" and "facial analysis". The manual provides a description of methods for recreating the physico-geographical conditions of the geological past. The main volume of the manual is devoted to the characteristics of modern facies and their fossil analogues. The methodological basis of the course is the method of actualism and the comparative-historical method of cognition of the evolution of the outer shells of the globe, primarily the stratisphere. The doctrine of facies is considered as the most important component of, on the one hand, lithology in its broad sense, on the other hand, paleogeography. The relationship of sedimentary minerals with specific facies is considered and in this regard - methods for constructing facial and paleogeographic maps
