The methodical manual is intended for philologists of the 2nd year of full-time education and contains materials and tasks for practical classes on the history of foreign literature of the first part of the XIX century (romanticism). Students are encouraged to complete two types of assignments, each of which must develop different skills for their independent work. Tasks for classes 1-4 contain excerpts from the works of art of the period of literature under study and involve a detailed, thoughtful philological analysis of the text. At the same time, the plan of each lesson focuses on the relevant aspect of literary theory: the problem of the genres of a romantic fairy tale or a lyro-epic poem, the problem of romantic style and irony. These classes develop and illustrate the theoretical material of the lecture course, in the course of the work students should acquire the skills of applying the obtained theoretical knowledge for independent analysis of the artistic text. Tasks for lessons 5-8 contain questions of a more general nature, orienting students in the educational material, they are designed for independent work with textbooks, monographs, artistic texts. These tasks include educational material taken beyond the lecture course and should develop students’ skills of analytical reading educational and scientific literature in order to independently gain knowledge.
