These views are supported by traditional views about the low level of culture of Ancient Russia. This is all very wrong.. Russia before the invasion of Batu was represented by magnificent monuments of architecture, painting, applied art, historical works and journalistic works .. It was not isolated from other European countries, and maintained close cultural ties with Byzantium and many European countries. The culture of pre-Mongolian Russia was high and refined. Against this cultural background, “The Tale of Igor’s Regiment” does not seem to be a lonely, exceptional monument.
