The paper presents a new method for detecting structural patterns in symbolic sequences, which is based on the concepts of finite sequence complexity and complex sequence profile .. The definition of complexity used in the work explicitly appeals to the concept of repetition, which plays a fundamental role in the organization of genetic texts. The proposed method can be considered as a very universal tool for finding local-type patterns (concentrated in a fairly limited section of the genome). On the example of bacteriophage, a classification of the types of detected patterns was carried out, their connection with iconic structures (genome fragments responsible for the regulation of basic genetic processes) was traced. The hypothesis of "hierarchical duplication" as a possible mechanism of genome evolution using block rearrangements has been formulated.
