These guidelines are the third edition of the 2002 National Standards for the Treatment of Diabetes Patients. issued as part of the Federal Targeted Program "Diabetes". These methodological recommendations, called "Algorithms of specialized medical care for patients with diabetes", contain updated information on almost all issues of treatment of diabetes mellitus, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of chronic complications of this disease. Added information about a fundamentally new class of sugar-lowering drugs belonging to the group of mimics of hormone . The chapters "Classification of diabetes mellitus" and "Diagnosis of diabetes mellitus" are unchanged, which are given according to the latest WHO revision from 1999. The recommendations are intended for endocrinologists and diabetologists, as well as for all specialists involved in the treatment of patients with diabetes .
