PrefaceArtificial Intelligence (AI) applications are everywhere anddominate news stories almost daily. Recent months havewitnessed a surge of interest in AI due to the rollout ofChatGPT and other large language models. However, wellbefore the rise of ChatGPT, AI had already become an integralpart of our lives, powering various applications we rely on daily. From popular platforms like Facebook to voice assistants likeSiri and Alexa, AI has found its way into numeroussmartphone apps. Moreover, AI plays a crucial role in essentialbusiness applications, government, and domains like healthcarediagnostics, aiding humanity significantly. AI can change ourlives for the better in immense ways.Nonetheless, alongside the excitement surrounding AI, there isalso a sense of unease. Elon Musk and many prominentexponents of AI have expressed concerns about the potentialrisks - even suggesting the possibility of humanity's extinction. Aprimary concern revolves around the safety of AI systems, particularly life-and-death applications. For instance, medicalrobotics, patient diagnostics, and other AI-driven healthcaresystems could have dire consequences if they misdiagnose orprovide incorrect treatment options. Furthermore, militaryapplications of AI, such as drones, also have the potential tocause harm, whilst driverless vehicles relying on AIdecision-making alone can also lead to fatal accidents. Thegeneral public finds itself in a state of understandable confusion. On the one hand, they recognise the immense benefits that AIcan bring to humanity. On the other hand, they are confrontedwith warnings from politicians, technologists, and other sources, cautioning about the existential threats posed by AI. Theseconfusing conditions are compounded by the varying degrees towhich AI impacts our lives, ranging from emotional discomfortcaused by the misuse of AI-based smartphone apps to thepotential for disastrous consequences of its use in militaryconflict
