Overview: Suggestions can drastically alter the way individuals perceive and think about their world. The power of suggestion has been most widely studied in hypnosis in which the effects appear to result from a special force or special words of the hypnotist, but this is incorrect. The essence of hypnosis lies in the individual's susceptibility to suggestion a personality trait that can be measured by a simple test. For more than half-a-century thousands of men and women have been so tested in an attempt to understand how suggestions alter thought processes.
