Work for a Million, the second novel about Helen Keremos, lesbianP.I., came out in 1987. I wrote it on a Commodore 64 computerin the mid-eighties, in the back room of my used book store inToronto.It was the distant world of the eighties when ‘security’ wasstrictly lowercase and not a great generator of jobs, and wheneveryone smoked.Work for a Million isn’t about the eighties. It is of the eighties,having been written when what is now the past was still thefuture. We didn’t know the Soviet Empire was on its last legs,and 9/11 was just an emergency number. For this Bedside Pressedition, not a word has been changed, added, or deleted from theoriginal. My thanks to Hope Nicholson for this fine reprint.
