"Some time ago my wife and I spent several months in the United Statesinterviewing a cross-section of the Jewish community for a book we werewriting entitled The American Jew. In the process we heard about a smallsynagogue where individuals calling themselves ‘Messianic Jews’ heldreligious services. One of those who told us about them was the director ofan anti-cult organization. Sitting on the porch of his house drinkingmandarin tea while a squirrel overhead pelted us with small pieces of bark,he told us about his experiences with this new religious movement."
