Gradiva: A Pompeian Fiction is a 1903 novel by the Norwegian writer Wilhelm Jensen. The book tells the story of a young archaeologist, Nora, who communicates with an ancient monument called "Gradiva", which she is studying. Nora appears as an ancient woman living in Pompeii before its destruction in 79 AD. The novel combines mythology, archeology and psychology, exploring themes of love, faith and loss. "Gradiva" absorbed symbolism, mysticism and philosophical undertones, making it a work that remains relevant and researched to this day.
