“A Historical Review of Alexander I’s Attempt to Restore the Kingdom of Poland” is an essay by the outstanding Russian publicist and publisher Mikhail Nikiforovich Katkov (1818–1887). With the end of the diplomatic campaign against Russia, the Polish question becomes especially relevant. Here we need to turn first of all to Polish history, which begins with the formation of a kingdom under the name of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw from the areas taken by Napoleon I from Prussia. This separate state, gaining allies, instantly began to show hostility towards Russia.
