“G. Kostomarov, a scientist who is very famous in St. Petersburg, a favorite of the St. Petersburg public, wrote, as is known on behalf of the local Academy of Sciences, an article for “Mesyatseslov” in 1864. This article managed to become famous in a short time almost more than all other works venerable ex- professor and rightly deserved infamy. This article caused a remark by Mr. Pogodin in No. 4 of “The Day” and thus led to a long polemic, which ended on March 2 with an article by Mr. Kostomarov, published in No. 62 of “Voices”. Two St. Petersburg magazines took an indirect part in this controversy, expressing with their comments the impression made by the dispute between two scientists on the St. Petersburg public...” The work is given in the pre-reform alphabet.
