The novel takes place in the distant future, on a land where people have become a minority and technology has taken over the world. In a world where robots ride the subway and androids walk on the streets. At the center of the story is an ordinary man, the last person on earth, who refuses to accept what has happened and continues to look for the meaning of life in work. He, as at the beginning of his life, continues to go to work every day along with his robot colleagues. However, many years later, he meets a girl who, like a ghost, torments his soul with her elusiveness. She, like the man, is lost in the new world. The girl also feels like a stranger. Having met a similar sufferer, they both decide to accept their future and finally deliver the land into the hands of new owners, thus closing the book of human history.
