"Kandyagash" is translated from Kazakh as "alder". Back in tsarist times, a small station of the same name was founded on the Tashkent railway, which became the city of Oktyabrsky under Khrushchev. There are only dusty steppes around and hundreds of kilometers to the nearest sea - the Aral Sea. The sea is drying up, the steppes are covered with salt. The wind sadly drives tumbleweeds in flocks along power lines.
