The events described in the story take place in the nineties, in a small Uzbek village, lost somewhere in the mountains. Residents call their village “Chukur”, which translates as “Yama”. One day, a man who sheltered Christian sectarians dies in Yama. The people, led by the imam, refuse to bury Husnud according to Muslim customs. The brother of the deceased, Mansur, is forced to take the deceased to the mountains and bury him there.
