“Green Apples” is a collective novel (burime), the authors of which on the cover of the first edition in 1927 are identified as seventeen real foreign writers popular in Soviet Russia (Michael Arlen, Robert Stevenson, Jules Romain, Mark Twain, Victor Bridges, Victor Marguerite, Stefan Zweig, Jack London, H.G. Wells, etc.). The novel was compiled by Cornelius Kroc and “translated from American” by Nikolai Borisov. The novel is a collage of quotes from Soviet translations of books by foreign writers (and if there are several translations, preference is given to the obviously worst one).
