A small, inconspicuous woman, Ninotchka, lives in a provincial town. The factory where she works goes bankrupt; it is sold to a former resident of the city, Vasily, who, during his absence from the city, becomes a successful businessman. Ninochka has loved Vasily since school, but he is married to Maria, who does not love him at all and is cheating on him. Vasily finds his wife in the arms of her lover, a quarrel occurs, after which he gets behind the wheel and crashes into a fence at high speed and ends up in the hospital. His health is not in danger, but he has lost his memory. Ninochka visits him, and he also begins to feel love for her.
