Jean Follin (1903–1971) is practically unknown in Russia. It cannot be said that he has wide fame in France either. In French literature of the 20th century, abundant with big names, it is generally difficult to stand out. But the point is that Follen’s poetry (and his poetic prose) seems to be elusive, eluding any interpretations and philological tools, while he himself avoided commenting on his own writings. However, Follen's quiet, yet persistent, and perhaps increasingly noticeable presence in French culture over the years never allowed him to be classified as a secondary writer.
