Jean-Pierre Camus (1584–1652) is one of the most prolific authors of his century. His work is represented by more than 250 works, including several volumes of sermons, religious treatises, 36 novels and 21 volumes of short stories with a total of 950. A native of Paris, who became Bishop of Bellay at the age of 24, a fiery preacher, founder of three monasteries, a tireless figure in the Counter-Reformation, a deputy of the General States from the clergy (1614), at the end of his life he retired to a shelter for incurable patients, where he devoted himself to prayers and helping the suffering.
