Leszek Kolakowski (1927-2009) philosopher, historian of philosophy, also involved in the philosophy of culture and religion and the history of ideas. Professor at the University of Warsaw, dismissed in 1968 and forced to emigrate. He taught at McGill University in Montreal, at the University of California in Berkeley, at Yale University in New Haven, and at the University of Chicago. Since 1970 he has lived and worked in Oxford. He is a member of several European and American academies and the winner of numerous awards (Friedenpreis des Deutschen Buchhandels, Praemium Erasmianum, Jefferson Award, Polish PEN Club Prize, Prix Tocqueville). The book includes his works of a literary nature: a series of essays on biblical topics "Seventeen" or "", essay "On Justice", "On Tolerance", etc.
