For Trotsky, the resolution of December 5 was a victory that needed to be developed. He writes a detailed article “The New Deal”, in which he sets out his views, which later became known as Trotskyism. Trotsky himself repeatedly denied that “Trotskyism” existed. Trotsky considered himself a Leninist. But one does not interfere with the other - just as Leninism stood out within the framework of Marxism, so within the framework of Leninism various ideological movements began to stand out, and Trotskyism became one of them. Trotsky’s article, followed by several others, which together were published in January as a separate brochure The “New Deal” outraged the majority of the Politburo. The “attack on the bureaucracy” and the statement about the “degeneration of personnel” were perceived by the “old guard” as an attack on themselves. On December 14, a discussion was officially announced; Stalin, Bukharin, Kamenev, Zinoviev and other authors came out with devastating articles against Trotsky and his allies.
