The story is the author's fantasy interpretation of the urban legend about the ghost of Bald Mountain. Bald Mountain is one of the attractions of Volgograd; during the Great Patriotic War, in military reports it was called Height 145.5. This was the second most important height of the Battle of Stalingrad after the famous Mamayev Kurgan. Currently, on Lysaya Gora there is an obelisk and an Alley of Memory, planted by several generations of students of Volgograd State University.
