The hero of this documentary story, diesel locomotive driver Vasily Grigorievich Bezvershuk, has been living and working in Sverdlovsk for almost four decades. His youth was harsh. In the spring of forty-four, a fifteen-year-old teenager from a Ukrainian village was captured by fascists: the Nazis suspected him of being a “Russian saboteur”... In the mountains of Czechoslovakia, having escaped from captivity with his comrades, Vasya Bezvershuk became a scout for the partisan battalion - the Fourth Ensign. The twice-published documentary story by N. Dubinin tells about the combat path of the young partisan, about the friendship of Czech and Russian fighters who fought shoulder to shoulder against the fascist invaders. In preparing it for the new edition, the author revised and expanded a number of chapters.
