Paris, 1931. France is at the peak of colonial power, which will inevitably be followed by decline. To prove its greatness to the whole world and to itself, the government of the country organizes the International Colonial Exhibition - pompous, hypocritical and definitely chauvinistic. A Frenchman of Algerian origin, Alain, a mediocre artist and a brilliant photographer, begins to notice that some of his models are dying sudden and strange deaths. Gradually, as if on a positive note, a terrible truth is revealed. And the death of a beloved cat during an experiment is only a prologue to a shocking denouement.
