In the article “Unboring Poetry,” poet, translator and literary critic Grigory Kruzhkov talks about the anthology “Six Poets: From Hardy to Larkin” published by actor and playwright Alan Bennett. The selection principle is simple: the book includes poems by poets who were understandable and loved by the compiler of the anthology from the first reading. And at the same time, according to G. Kruzhkov, A. Bennett involuntarily gives an idea of the mainstream of English poetry, whose distinctive features were and remain “asceticism, attention to ordinary, everyday life, melancholy restraint, sentimentality...” And so that the inexperienced reader does not get bored with in verse and only verse, the book contains various kinds of biographical information, anecdotes and rumors about the poets included in the anthology.
