Mickey Spillane (Frank Morrison Spillane) - American writer, author of popular works in the genre of "cool detective" He has written more than 20 novels with a circulation of more than 140 million copies. Spillane was born in Brooklyn, New York. During World War II, he served in the Air Force. He began his writing career as a comic book writer. The first novel, Trial Is Me, was published by Spillane in 1946. The hero of this and eleven other books was private detective Mike Hammer, one of the most popular characters of popular culture. Spillane's novels have been screened many times in film and television. Spillane played the role of a detective in the movie Ring of Fear (1954). The classics were films based on his novels, including Kiss Me Deadly (1955) and The Girl Hunters (1963), with his own participation. In the movie “The Girl Hunters” Spillane played his own hero Hammer (and this is one of the rare cases in history when the author plays the role of the hero he created himself). He also appeared as a writer in the television series about Colombo .. In 1965, Spillane married for the second time. His chosen one was Sherri Malinou, a model who posed in a candid pose on the cover of his 1972 book The Erection Set (just for her). Spillane's huge success is usually attributed to a successful mixture of his coarse language, character rigidity, and an abundance of erotic scenes. His books, as another detective author Raymond Chandler has said, can be called "a mixture of violence and overt pornography." However, it has become a classic of the genre.. In the top ten most popular American books published between 1895 and 1965, there were seven novels by Spillane. “It’s a shame!” a New York writer once said. “You’re lucky I didn’t write three more novels,” Mickey said. He died at his home in Charleston, South Carolina on July 17, 2006 of cancer.
