The monograph is devoted to the results of the project No. 16-18-00078 “Mechanisms for overcoming mental barriers of inclusion of socially vulnerable categories of the population to intensify the processes of modernization of the regional community” carried out in 2016-2018 by the scientific team of the FGBUN "Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences" with the financial support of the Russian Science Foundation . The book presents the theoretical and methodological grounds for studying social exclusion as a factor of vulnerability of certain groups of the population (elderly people, people with disabilities, parents with many children, young professionals). The barriers of inclusion of these population groups in the regional community are shown. On the basis of sociological surveys and focus group studies, stereotypes have been confirmed that limit the inclusion of all population groups of territories in modernization processes. It is substantiated that in modern conditions the “face” of socially vulnerable groups is changing, which is associated with overcoming the stereotypes that have developed in society. Mechanisms for overcoming the exclusion of socially vulnerable population based on social, economic and infrastructural integration are proposed The publication can be useful for science and education workers, government officials, as well as students and graduate students whose scientific interests are related to social issues and its understanding from the standpoint of philosophy, economics, demography and sociology.
