The central problem of this collection is the question of the relationship between mass culture and modern dynamic spatial practices. The authors come from a belief, that popular culture forms collective notions of space, supports and actively updates imaginary topographies, whether we are talking about places of punk performances and art street actions or post-imperial London book and television hillsiana on the symbolic geography of cookbooks or Soviet topos in current Russian literature . On the other hand, the ever-changing understanding of space as a multi-valued socio-cultural phenomenon cannot but affect the processes occurring in the field of production, consumption and interpretation of various forms of popular culture. The collection "Topographies of Popular Culture" is a forum for interdisciplinary discussions of mass culture and space in modern American, European and Russian contexts.
