During the first decades of this century, only a few people transformed the face of the world. Like Chaplin in film, Joyce in literature, Freud in psychology and Einstein in science, Picasso made a revolution in painting, overthrowing all the usual points of view (crushing his views, if they became a hindrance to him). He was related to these innovators by the consciousness of the fundamental difference between the object and its image, which made it unacceptable to use language simply to reflect reality.
