This collection is compiled on the basis of the materials of the international scientific and practical conference "Cinema document in the modern media space . Limits of the Possible”, organized and conducted by the Non-Playing Film Directing Department on November 19-20, 2014 within the framework of the 34th VGIK International Student Festival . Leading domestic and foreign documentary filmmakers and film theorists discussed the fundamental, topical issues of contemporary documentary cinema: how to understand the document in the film process ethical and aesthetic deformation of documentary films during film editing, the effect of authenticity ; new technologies and standards of modern mass media that affect the authenticity of the film document ; interpretation, actor's reconstruction of the event and stylization to the chronicle of the film. The collection is of interest to all interested in fundamental issues of history and theory of cinema, and documentary film in particular. Texts of speeches are printed in the author's edition.
