“The purpose of this book is to give a few pictures of the life and life of a huge African continent, which life I overheard from just two or three points; and, I think, I overheard something. Being in a quiet Arab village, in Rades, was a tremendous revelation to me, broadening the horizons; from here I traveled mentally into the depths of Africa, into the depths of the centuries that made up its modern life; this life we already feel, thousands of threads will connect us with Africa. Being in 1911 with his wife in Tunisia and Egypt, we devoted all the time to understanding the pictures that stood before us; and, properly speaking, this book cannot be called "Travel Notes". This is more of an "African Diary" .. At the same time, this book is naturally connected with my other book published in Russia under the title Ofeira and published in Berlin under the title Travel Notes. Nevertheless, this book is independent: it takes the topic “Africa” wider than “Travel Notes” .. As an independent book, I offer it to the attention of the reader.
