Truman Capote, the author of such best-sellers as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (a story celebrated in 1961 with Audrey Hepburn in the title role), “Voices of the Grass”, “Other Voices, Other Rooms”, “Ghosts in the Sun” and others, is among the largest American prose writers of the 20th century. The most significant work of Capote, many consider the novel “Cold-blooded murder”, based on the story of a real crime and revealing the nature of violence as a complex social and psychological phenomenon. Capote's book, which instantly became a bestseller, gave rise to a special genre of "romance reportage" and opened the way for the prose of Norman Mailer and Tom Wolfe. The balance and open-mindedness of the author’s position, brilliant accuracy of style, polyphonic image made the novel a model of documentary and fiction; in the list of the 100 best books of the 20th century according to The Guardian, “Cold-blooded murder” took the 84th position. The film adaptation of the same name by Richard Brooks, released immediately after the publication of the novel Capote, was nominated for four Oscars.
