Carrie Malone has seen a lot of grief in her life. She left home, leaving the past behind, and now her whole life is studying and working in a diner. Some will find it boring, but not Carrie. She is pleased with such a calm monotony . But everything changes when one evening a stranger enters the diner in an obviously expensive, but rather battered suit. Carrie doesn't know what to think of this broken man - he's obviously rich, but he looks like he's spent a few nights on the street. And her bewilderment grows when a man leaves her an expensive watch as payment for a cup of coffee.
