“Abramtsevo, November 14, Sunday. Today I didn’t go to mass because I went yesterday, but the sisters went today. - The mail was delivered early, - besides the newspapers, three letters - from Grisha, from Khlebnikov and, quite unexpectedly, from Smirnova. There was no special news from Crimea, except that on November 2 there was a storm and the enemy ships were damaged. Mama heard in Khotkovo that news of our severe defeat was published in the “City List” on the 12th, but this cannot be: otherwise it should have already been reprinted in the “Moskovskie Vedomosti” ... "
