This edition includes two novels classics of world fiction and adventure literature by Jules Verne . In Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), the German scientist Otto Lidenbrok, a professor of mineralogy from Hamburg, finds in an old Icelandic book a manuscript with runic letters, deciphering which he and his nephew Axel become owners of an incredible secret. According to the author of the manuscript, the 16th century alchemist Arne Saknussem, the globe inside is hollow and in the center of it is a mysterious, unknown to people world, which can be penetrated through the crater of the extinct Icelandic volcano Sneifedls .. Around the World in Eighty Days (1872) a story familiar to us from childhood by numerous (sometimes very free) adaptations of the 80-day journey through various countries and continents which is undertaken as a result of an unusual bet by the eccentric London gentleman Phileas Fogg , his servant, the Frenchman Jean Passepartout and the pursuing detective Fix … In this edition, the novels are illustrated by the remarkable Czech artist Wenceslaus Czerny (18651936) and the Russian master of book graphics Peter Lugansky (19111993).
